SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. - University of Arkansas senior-to-be Emily Tubert fired a two-over 74 in first round action at the 2013 U.S. Women's Open in Southampton, N.Y., Thursday.
The event at Sebonack Golf Course takes place with a tough layout on the par 72, 6,821-yard course.
Tubert, a Burbank, Calif., native, opened the day with a double on her first hole. She settled in as the nerves gave way to birdied on the sixth and nine holes and she turned even in her first U.S. Women's Open appearance.
Tubert bogeyed both the 12th and 17th holes, both par threes, to finish her day with a 74. For the day, Tubert hit 10 fairways with an average driving distance of 266.0 yards. She had one sand save for the round.
Her 74 was good for a tie for 68th with several players in the midst of their rounds.
Former Razorback Stacy Lewis is also competing and shot a one-under 71 and is tied for 14th overall, just four strokes back of the leader.
Lewis was busy on the front nine with three birdies and one bogey and added a second bogey on the 11th. She finished her round with seven consecutive par holes.
Play continues Friday with afternoon tee times for both players.
