Hogs Women's Golf Finish Third; Tubert Fifth

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Univ. of Ark.) - The seventh-ranked University of Arkansas women's golf team battled tough conditions shooting a final round one-over 289 finishing third at the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday, in the final fall event of the 2013 season.

    Senior Emily Tubert moved up the leaderboard finishing tied for fifth overall with a final round 73 for 212 with rounds of 68-71-73. Sophomore Gabriela Lopez tied for seventh with 213 shooting 73-68-82 and senior Emma Lavy tied for 13th overall with a 214 with rounds of 68-71-75.

    Tubert's scorecard was free of much ink as the Burbank, Calif., native recorded two bogeys on the second and 12th hole and a birdie on the par five seventh hole. She counted 15 par holes in her round. She finished the tournament with nine birdies including two each on the seventh and 13th holes over the three rounds.

    Lopez opened her round with a double on the third hole followed by a bogey on the fifth hole but she settled in playing her last 13 holes three-under and finished the day with four birdies en route to her 72. Lopez had 11 birdies over the tournament.

    Lavy posted her best finish of the fall with her tie for 13th overall. Lavy had 14 birdies in the tournament and an eagle as she finished strong playing her final five holes one-under with a birdie on 18. The Fayetteville, Ark., native played the front nine two-under over the three-day tournament.

    Sophomore Regina Plasencia finished tied for 17th shooting a 215 with rounds of 70-73-72 in the last of four consecutive strong tournaments. Freshman Summar Roachell rounded out the Arkansas scores tying for 55th overall with a 224, shooting 74-78-72.

    Fifth-ranked Oklahoma surged to the top of the leaderboard shooting a 12-under 276 in the final round winning with 840. The No. 25 LSU Tigers were second with 848 followed by No. 7 Arkansas with 851. Number 17 Florida with 855 was fourth and No. 46 Texas A&M and host UTSA rounded out the top five tying with 860. The rest of the field included No. 49 TCU with 866, Texas State with 870, No. 40 Louisville with 872, No. 18 Tulane with 875, No. 43 SMU with 878, No. 44 Florida state with 883, Baylor with 889, Texas with 893 and Tennessee with 899.

    Although the fall collegiate season is over for Arkansas, competition is not. Lopez will depart San Antonio, Texas, for Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, for The Spirit International. Lopez represents Team Mexico for the remainder of the week.
