FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFSM) - According to 5News, A 12-car pileup in Fayetteville stopped up traffic for miles along I-540 Monday morning.

It was the largest accident of the nearly dozen fender benders reported.

Road crews tried to prepare the roads with sand and salt, but the rain mixed with icy temperatures in Northwest Arkansas sent cars sliding.

Highway 4-12 at the White County River Bridge was also a hub for accidents and traffic.

"I tried to grab my wheel and then I just hit the wall. I just jumped out to make sure my kids were alright. It didn't seem like there were any issues until we came around the corner and now the traffic is just at a dead stop, it seems they're letting them come through one car at a time," said Anthony Marroy, who was caught in the traffic.

Authorities said several injuries were reported, but none were life threatening.
